Alternative interpretation suggesting Raxxla represents the philosophical concept of exploration itself rather than a physical location. Described as 'A place that isn't a place. A door but also the key,' implying a gateway to understanding rather than a discoverable destination.

Alternative interpretation of Raxxla as metaphorical rather than physical: 'A place that isn't a place. A door but also the key.' Suggests it may represent the concept of exploration itself rather than an actual location.
Possible Location of Raxxla: Founders World My reasoning relies on what lore we have and practical application of it. Raxxla was described more than once as a rouge planetary body capable of autonomous (?) travel. So, I took the speeds of the fastest rouge bodies known (and a theroy that Raxxla isn't FTL capable) with the last 'known' location Lave 2 centuries ago (less than 1000 years) and did the math. All in all? 44.7ly minimum, 999ly maximum. So, Raxxla (and/or its gateway) is nearby. Within 1000ly one world with a startlingly close match (secrecy, Elitists, INRA, The Dark Wheel) would be Founders World. It has been accessible since 2015 (no engineers or boosts). It is 'hidden' by the Pilot's Federation through misinformation that contradicts itself. Oh, and its wording used t...
Proposes Raxxla is protected by Somebody Else's Problem field concept (HHGTTG reference), making it visible only when not actively looking for it.
Yep, this is my favourite of the ED books I've read so far, but I don't really know how much I can depend on the information in it considering the imperial succession storyline that subsequently appeared in game and didn't really seem to mesh. But perhaps that can be explained. Re Raxxla, do you think Neptune and Oberon are clues? Otherwise I'm not sure what else there is to go on. My own theory, which is not helpful at all is that Raxxla is hidden by the ED universe equivalent of an SEP* field, meaning it's only possible to see when you're not looking for it, and it'll just pop up in the corner of your eye and when you try and look more closely it'll be gone. * Somebody else's problem, from HHGTTG
Hypothesis that Raxxla may be a literary tribute to author Robert Holdstock (Tour of the Universe, Eyes Among The Blind) rather than purely an Elite exclusive concept, suggesting connection to Frontier staff.
Tour of the Universe: The Journey of a Lifetime: The Recorded Diaries of Lieo Scott and Caroline Luranski - by Robert Holdstock and Malcom Edwards Eyes Among The Blind - Robert Holdstock I wonder if Raxxla is less a Elite exclusive thing and more a trope of sorts. It seems it (Raxxla) may be a tribute to the late author. Wasn't some of the Frontier staff fairly close?
Assessment that FD unlikely to have programmed second universe accessible via Raxxla. With no lore clues confirmed, Raxxla is likely a metaphorical treasure and literal dead-end location.
It is quite exciting to think there is an undiscovered gateway out there, that could lead to another galaxy, where untold riches or new high tech awaits. While we won't actively be searching for it every day, we will keep my eyes and ears open at every station and in every system. We may even set my jumps to economical and start scanning every system from one point to the other. Click to expand... I can't see FD programming a second universe only accessible via "Raxxla". I suspect that the Raxxla that DB/MB have confirmed is within game and for which there will be no clues (suggesting no lore is applicable) will only be a metaphorical treasure and a literal dead end. But it's nice to have something to look for!
Author theorizes Raxxla may be abstract or metaphorical ('a place which is not a place' and 'a door which is also the key') rather than a standard discoverable system, depending on what lore developers actually implemented.
I was reading through the op and was thinking about the assumptions about Raxxla. Do we assume anything about how we will know if we have found it? It will be named Raxxla? We will or will not be able to land on it? One would imagine it to have structures on it, perhaps even visible from space. If The Dark Wheel is there now, we should be attacked upon entering the system. Click to expand... Where (a place which is not a place) or what (a door which is also the key) is Raxxla is only matter of how much of the original lore our secretive-up-to-paranoia FDevs oblige us by actually puting it into the game. After the FR mYsTeRy (here be ghosts, booooo) fraud, I am not sure we should have much expectatives about exciting discoveries ... Edit: alas.
Analyzes the canonical Raxxla hint 'A place, that isn't a place. A door that is also the key.' Connects it to concepts of abstract/intangible locations and suggests the supermassive black hole as a potential metaphorical gateway.
Hello, New player here, a mere week into the game however this little mistery, and seeing how FD handles riddles in the game as something to be solved by the community as opposed to some fun tidbit of lore to never be explored again aside from some obscure expansion later, has absolutely gripped me. Now I may have missed something as I was honestly skimming this thread, however, it seems to me that very little attention has been given to what I believe is actually the single most crucial hint given in the lore surrounding this...well, you know. The hint being, "A place, that isn't a place. A door that is also the key." My thoughts on this are as follows after some quick heavy research. Starting with "A place, that isn't a place." So far, after cruising across Google for awhile ...
Hypothesis that Raxxla might be metaphorical rather than literal: the ship itself (place that isn't a place), FSD (door and key to witchspace), suggesting Raxxla is about access to witchspace or dimensional travel.
Tbh I've been working on various tinfoiled ideas about Raxxla since launch. I have a horrible feeling it's a metaphor for our ships - a place that's not a place(because it's a ship) and which has an FSD that is both a door and key (to accessing witchspace) and is capable of taking us to anyplace in the galaxy. I'm also currently putting a lot of time into figuring out if the place that's not a place is a reference to the "time" element of 4 dimensional space, as that's a coordinate value for a "place" that often goes overlooked. And now I've written this, I'm wondering if it's a case of being in the right place and time, with a frame shift drive. Seriously, raxxla is like some horrific theoretical fractal set - the closer you look the more and more infinite it becomes >.<
Analysis of Rafe Zetter quote: Raxxla contains alien construct functioning as gateway to other universes. Raxxla itself occupied by 'powerful, twisted men' (Elites) exploiting gateway; actual treasures/bounties lie beyond the gateway.
Major Tin Foil ahead. "... on Raxxla there's an alien construct that's a gateway to other Universes, and all that's in those Universes in the way of bounty, and treasures, and aliens, and life . . ." "there are people on Raxxla already. This is only a guess, mind you, but from what happened to Jason I'd say it was close to being right. We've long suspected that a corps of élites lives there, and are exploiting the gateway. They're powerful, twisted men." - Rafe Zetter. The only thing special about Raxxla itself is the Gateway. All the really good stuff is on the other side of Raxxla, beyond door so to speak. Raxxla itself is already occupied. By powerful and twisted men. Elites who are exploiting the Gateway. Let's listen to Rafe one more time: "They're powerful, twisted men. Powerful...
Raxxla theorized as a planet in another galaxy containing an alien construct serving as a gateway to other universes. The Dark Wheel discovered it and maintains the location secret. Existence supported by the Dark Wheel faction's presence in-game and their connection to Raxxla.
This ship log will be used to document the assumptions, facts, theories and efforts surrounding Raxxla, with the ultimate goal of locating Raxxla. All commanders willing to join are most welcome. If no new entries are made by me for a period of 2 weeks, you must assume that I have been eliminated by the Dark Wheel, swallowed by the abyss, or found Raxxla and have gone there. I hope for the latter (but will probably send pretty postcards). Raxxla A planet in another galaxy? with an alien construct that's a gateway to other Universes. The Dark Wheel found it (and lost it?), and will keep it's location secret at all costs. Assumptions Raxxla exists and can be found. Supporting indications: The existence of the Dark Wheel faction which is strongly connected to Raxxla. Missions[2][3][4][6]...
The Dark Wheel functions as a 'legend based on real events' within the Elite Dangerous universe where fact and fiction are indistinguishable. Understanding Raxxla may require treating TDW as a semi-canonical source for interpreting the mystery.
I don't think I've specifically come across him saying anything about a book - however, he's said a lot, I'd be really interested if you can dig that one up Scytale! Click to expand... Got it. OMG ...from one of my own posts ... soon my memory will challenge Jorki's ... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/50320-Elite-Legacy?p=2566545&viewfull=3#post2566545 Seems to my teribble anglich that he refers to Legacy as being a 'spiritual successor' and the sequel to The Dark Wheel involving Raxxla the one that will be played out in the game. If so, could we say the Raxxla of ED must be tight bound to the Raxxla of TDW ? In other words: Q:What is Raxxla ? A: Read TDW ! You cannot find this place the Dark Wheel missions are gone form the game. Click to expand... Some interesti...
