Raxxla exists as an unscanned point of interest or outpost accessible through base-game mechanics alone, requiring players to locate it via unconventional methods similar to finding Voyager probes rather than standard scanning.

Raxxla could be a massive station-sized structure with detectable energy signature (similar to Polaris anomaly), possibly a mobile spacetime rift or mobile scientific archive created by the Guardians using EM propulsion.
Better question. How massive is it? Something huge moving that fast has to have a noticable energy signature. Then again, we can't detect signals with our scanners after x amount of distance. So it's a station sized gateway... Probably like the thing in Polaris. A mobile spacetime rift to somewhere else or a mobile archive of scientific data...
Guardians may predate humanity (explaining fossilized remains on Mars). If Raxxla is Guardian-made, it may use EM propulsion and could be detected via large EM signatures in Shinrarta Dezhra or connected to the Monolith Network.
Huge what if here. What if the fall of the guardians predates humanty? The Guardians resemble us enough to warrent Ram Tah's enthusiasm. They do in fact have the ability to develop racial varieties. The lack of bladed arms can be chalked up to evolution. If so, It explains the Fossilised thing on Mars. Wasn't it a tablet? Either way now we have two possible directions. Sol or the Monolith Network. - - - Updated - - - Still, what is Raxxla? Either a planet (unlikely), gateway, or a mobile archive housing an AI. Or all of the above. - - - Updated - - - If it's Guardian made it uses EM propulsion. Look for large EM signatures in Shinrarta.
Raxxla is likely not a planet but rather a gateway structure, mobile archive, or AI housed within a mobile platform, possibly all functioning together.

Raxxla is likely a virtual database/workstation created by Guardians, accessible via monolith network and neural implants. Humans discovered access methods but lost them; some power players may have regained access. Locating Guardian homeworld or ruins could provide access.
Very interesting ideas... are we in agreement we have a testable theory? (-ish) Click to expand... "A place that isn't a place, a door that is also the key". Personally, I'm still firmly holding on to my belief that Raxxla is actually a virtual database of sorts, of the guardians creation. One of their virtual workstations where they could log in and work with other guardians no matter where they were in the galaxy, all thanks to the monolith network and neural implants. Humans found a way to access this virtual world and the knowledge contained, but then they lost it. I also believe there are those in positions of power that have regained access to Raxxla and are using it to make incredible leaps forward in technology. I dont know how we could find it ourselves, except for learning mo...
Theory that Raxxla is a physical planet (possibly Guardian homeworld, potentially a rogue planet) containing an access point to Guardian virtual worlds/dimensions. Connection to monolith network suggested for location clues.
Cross posted from guardians thread, still thinking of Raxxla and virtual worlds. Thought I might share here as well - Spoiler I envision a kind of matrix, a virtual world designed for the user to have control over. Depending on who is in control it could be a paradise, or it could be a nightmare. The guardians created and used it as a laboratory and a library. For both work and entertainment. "A gateway to other Universes", yet the universes are all virtual - "A place that isn't a place". Given more thought, I suppose Raxxla itself would probably have to be a physical planet. On it is the device that grants us access to these virtual planes. The gateway has to be somewhere in the physical realm right? So saying Raxxla is a virtual world probably isn't the right way to put it after a...
Hypothesis that Guardian monolith network may contain location data for Raxxla if Guardians are the owners. Also suggests connection to INRA allies and rogue planet habitability.
Thanks a lot! I will rep you once I'm in front of a pc. Indeed, as we know it's in-game, there has to be a hint somewhere, even if it's very obscure and faint. I will try to sift through all the info on those links once I'm back from my trip. Might be an idea to search for specific keywords, like Raxxla (doh), Ryder, gate, etc... - - - Updated - - - In 2015 I tried searching for stars older than the galaxy that we know of following just this lead, but nothing came out of it. There are indeed stars in our own galaxy older than the galaxy itself, probably caught sometime, but when I reached some of them, all were procgen and none was special whatsoever. Gave up on that lead... Click to expand... So, who/what are INRA's closest allies? My mind still wanders back to some connection wit...
Theory that Raxxla exists as a non-pingable dark object in bubble, only appearing when pilot comes nearby during supercruise flight. Specifically mentions searching in Shinrarta Dezhra toward Lave.
Just reread the Dark Wheel, haven't done that is i read it back when i was a wee lad when our school got it for the lone BBC Model B we had. Made me think again about this whole thing. Some things came to mind. In the novel, Raxxla is meant to be a planet. Regardless of what Ian Bell says, if its a planet, it can exist. Maybe he was referring to the alledged gateway to other universes which unless FD have been sneaky, there are no other universes/galaxies/regions. The novel referes to humands and sentient alien races living side by side. This is not in line with ED canon. Therefore whatever was in the Dark Wheel is open to revision, including the nature of Raxxla. Therefore again, making Ian Bell's statement redundant. Considering the limitations of drives back in that era (which does ...
Based on Sir B's confirmation that Raxxla is in the game, theorizes that it may be locked behind one of the game's exclusion zones. Mentions that FDev controls story pacing and that access may be gated behind future content updates.
I've re-read the Oolite saga, and it sent my grammar hat spinning. I've yet to read the official stories Drew has done, but considering I've caught up on everything relevant by reading the Raxxla threads on here I'll probably save myself another headache and just flick my tuppence in here. Sir B said it's in the game, I say it's locked behind one of the exclusions zones. People could find it, *if* they had access to said zones. If I've learnt anything from playing this game, it's that FDev refuses to advance the plot faster or slower than suits their purpouses. Still, I have it on good authority a few Canonn guys have a slight inside scoop where the story is concerned for 2.4, and it's my belief the whole thing is just another thread that'll be tied up when it suits the story anyway. Aft...
Theory that Raxxla is most likely a POI/outpost not directly scannable, similar to finding Voyager probes. Accessible via base-game mechanics only (no Horizons required), requiring players to fly within 1000Ls of specific system. References Drew's July 2014 comments predating Horizons.
Is Raxxla permit-locked, ... That way it could have been "in the game" since the start but completely cut off to players. Click to expand... To me hints always implied players could get to it, not that it's in a locked system, nor that you need Horizons*. A base-game player, and hence base-game mechanics, are all that's "hiding" Raxxla. So i'm still of the opinion it's mostly likely to be a POI / outpost you drop into, but is not scannable. Much like finding the Voyager probes: fly out into the black somewhere, get within 1000Ls, drop on the POI. The difficulty is working out what system, and what direction to go... * given Drew's comments were from July 8th 2014, and Horizons didn't launch until 15th Dec 2015.
Theory that Raxxla is an atmospheric (currently non-landable) planet with interactive in-system structures or elements to discover, not just a standard location.
What exactly are you expecting Raxxla to look like right now then? Click to expand... I'm expecting it to be a handcrafted system given a procgen name. Raxxla itself is probably an atmospheric planet - so currently inaccessible, but I'd expect some in-system assets that can be interacted with. In short, something for us to actually DISCOVER Now it must be said that I thought roughly the same about the Rift mystery - that there was something mysterious to uncover - so my track record isn't great. However, if the other 'great mystery' of ED gets handed to us on a plate or turns out to be somewhere that has been visited countless times under a different name then I'm pretty sure I'm going to be hitting the uninstall option.
Theory that undiscovered Class X stellar object (defined in game files but not yet found) is Raxxla, potentially as rogue planet with exotic classification.
This. And: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/275151-Commanders-log-manual-and-data-sample/page29 DrewC is right. Read the "Disclaimer" part. However, I think we haven't found any X star class...yet, because we haven't found Raxxla....yet. X=exotic and Raxxla is 'exotic' I HOPE ! If we suppose Raxxla is a rogue Planet, it can't be of the common star classes (OBAFKML.....). A small doubt about Y dwarfs, as astronomers don't agree whereas known Rogue Planets being "dwarf" or "sub-dwarf". Just Google it if interested. (My Anglich is to teribble for more...) It has to do with being >15 or <15 Jupiter masses. So I don't think Raxxla being so high G. If landable. So, no Y dwarf.
Analysis of rogue planet scientific classifications (dwarf vs sub-dwarf, Jupiter masses) and implications for Raxxla being a landable rogue planet.

Raxxla likely behind permit-locked system, waiting for future development cycles (atmospheric landings, walking/interaction). Discovery now would be underwhelming without gameplay mechanics to interact with it. Possibly revealed as part of Elite: Andromeda narrative.
Simplest solution is that Raxxla is several thousand LY out and nobody has stumbled across it yet. Click to expand... The longer this drags on, the more I think that the simplest solution is that it is hidden behind a permit locked system, waiting for end-game development cycles to complete. What good is Raxxla to us now, without the ability to land on it or, better yet, walk around it an interact with it? Even if it is a landable body, what do we have on it? Another version of some base or the other? In my mind, Raxxla becomes part of the utimate end game narrative, whereby having arrived after Elite Feet and Atmospheric Landings, you dock, get out and greet whomever it is that you greet and walk into the portal of Elite:Andromeda. Whatever the case may be...I'll hold out hope, but th...
Analysis of 'A Certain celestial body. Place that isn't a place, door that is also the key. The myth': Raxxla is an actual planet (not witchspace) with a different true name. It serves as a key/map to the actual discovery location, not the destination itself. 'The myth' refers to Raxxla as legend.
What does "A Certain celestial body. Place that isn't a place, door that is also the key. The myth." really mean? Click to expand... IMO: A Certain celestial body = It's actually a celestial body. i.e. a planet/moon - not a "state of being" or a "higher vibration" or "witchspace", etc. Place that isn't a place = Raxxla isn't called Raxxla (because Raxxla doesn't exist, it's just a name). door that is also the key = Raxxla is the starting point to finding the thing that we're really looking for, it's just the "key" to locating it. (i.e. it's not actually "the portal*", but it's how to get to the portal*) The myth = "Raxxla" is the myth. The reality is the planet itself, and whatever it contains. So: "It's a planet, not called Raxxla, that contains info (or a map, or another portal) ...
Reddit post claimed discovery of an eighth planet in a system that previously had only seven bodies, suggesting hidden or phantom planets may be part of the Raxxla search mechanism.
I believe in the previous post in this thread that system only had 7 planets. Did he visit it and find an 8th one? He either found a hidden planet in the system or he faked the image. Is anyone near the system? Someone should revisit it to find out. 0/3 One brown dwarf and seven un-landable bodies. Click to expand... Or does the game count the sun as 1 and the 7th planet as 8?
Raxxla as a 'ghost world' may be a wandering planet, hidden in an asteroid field, or positioned deep in a system well away from standard orbital markers or USS locations, consistent with The Dark Wheel lore.
Was going to point out rOmiLaYu’s comment, but Scytale has beaten me to it. however, reading rOmiLaYu’s text it might be that DBOBE was actually reminding Ed that he (Ed) doesn’t know anything about Raxxla; Guessing DBOBE & MB kept everyone else in FD out of the loop about Raxxla & placed it themselves. I haven’t seen the original livestream to have an opinion either way, but I suspect Raxxla as implemented in-game is in accordance with TDW lore. I.e. it is not alien, it is a planet, but it is some form of ghost- could be a planet wandering between systems, could be hidden in an asteroid field or in the depths of a system well off the beaten track with no orbital marker line, might be in a USS (but were they in game from the outset?). The alternative is - it’s a planet of ghosts, maybe ...
Theory that Raxxla could exist in the game map but be excluded from the Navigation Panel, making it discoverable only through direct exploration without nav guidance.
I always thought the easiest way to hide Raxxla in plain sight would be to have it in the map but not let it appear in the Nav Panel. Enjoy your fun new mapping game
