Documents the canonical split of Dark Wheel into separate factions pursuing different mysteries: Neptune Ryder pursued Raxxla while Oberon pursued Soontill. This led to the formation of the Circle of Independent Elite Pilots (CIEP) and suggests the original Dark Wheel contained multiple mission-critical objectives.

Cites official Elite: Dangerous licensed book revealing Dark Wheel split: Neptune Ryder pursued Raxxla while Oberon pursued Soontill, leading to formation of Circle of Independent Elite Pilots (CIEP) with focus on Soontill's power.
Oh by the way, rereading the thread makes me remember ... All the books officially published under the Elite : Dangerous license, on the other hand, are rather good sources of information. Which leads me to And Here the Wheel : SPOILER ALERT ! Spoiler Chapter 21 - p.281 - lines 18 to 24 : The Dark Wheel has been around for centuries, always led by a Ryder, always hunting for Raxxla; until we learned of the legend of Soontill. At that stage Alex Ryder had two sons: Neptune and Oberon. Oberon believed he could find Soontill. Neptune considered anything other than Raxxla irrelevant. Arguments ensued and we split from the Dark Wheel. We followed Oberon and formed the Circle of Independant Elite Pilots with the goal of using Soontill's power to protect humanity'. Questions whether names Neptune and Oberon Ryder in And Here the Wheel contain hidden clues to Raxxla's location.
Yep, this is my favourite of the ED books I've read so far, but I don't really know how much I can depend on the information in it considering the imperial succession storyline that subsequently appeared in game and didn't really seem to mesh. But perhaps that can be explained. Re Raxxla, do you think Neptune and Oberon are clues? Otherwise I'm not sure what else there is to go on. My own theory, which is not helpful at all is that Raxxla is hidden by the ED universe equivalent of an SEP* field, meaning it's only possible to see when you're not looking for it, and it'll just pop up in the corner of your eye and when you try and look more closely it'll be gone. * Somebody else's problem, from HHGTTG
Recommended reading The Dark Wheel novella by Robert Holdstock as essential reference for Raxxla investigation. Identified as primary lore source containing mythology and clues about Raxxla.
Started playing about a month ago, a couple weeks ago I was starting to doubt there was any ultimate goal for explorers. Then I stumbled across the name of a planet and a legend browsing the wiki. I've dropped everything and have put all efforts towards finding raxxla. My asp stands ready, where do I need to start? Click to expand... Start by reading The Dark Wheel by Robert Holdstock. Plenty of copies littering the internet. Here's a link: http://www.elitehomepage.org/dkwheel.htm
Extended analysis of Robert Holdstock's works including The Dark Wheel, Mythago Wood, and The Alien World (published under pen-name Steven Eisler). Identifies Holdstock as creator of Elite mythology and suggests Raxxla, Thruspace, and related concepts originated in his pre-Elite writings. Proposes Raxxla may exist as homage to Holdstock hidden within his literary works.
Sounds good, anything else? Click to expand... There are so many possibilities. What we actually know about Raxxla is very minimal ... most of it comes from Holdstock's The Dark Wheel. There is a brief mention of Raxxla in John Harper's And Here The Wheel but nothing concrete to suggest it is anything more than a myth. We who hunt Raxxla are little Don Quixotes ... each of us chasing our own windmills. Nobody can tell you that your particular windmill is any less of a giant than his or her own. For me, personally, the quest has taken me into the writings of Robert Holdstock. He, by and large, created much of the mythology of the Elite universe in authoring the original 1984 game's user manual and the accompanying novella. He went on to write the critically acclaimed Mythago Wood serie...
Analysis of location-bound proper names from The Dark Wheel novella identifies multiple referenced systems including some unknown to EDSM: Ontiat, Regiti, and Sotiqu (described as anarchist paradise). Mythological connections like Avalon/Avalonia and Ophiuchus region also noted.
Locations and location-bound proper names mentioned in The Dark Wheel, perhaps we can extrapolate something from it, sure are some leads to explore mentioned systems and locations (Tionisla excerpt for example): (ship Avalonia) Avalon (is a system) (also mythologically -- Arthurian legend -- related to UTOPIA, place that isn't a place) Lave "Ophidian class vessel" (region Ophiuchus?) "shuttling cargo between the worlds of the Galactic co-operative Ontiat (unknown to EDSM and EDDiscovery) Leesti (a planet and system) "a small greenish disc" *** Regiti (unknown) Aona "Moray", a ship, bears likeness to systems: Mora, Morai, Moraja Raxxla, of course Sotiqu, referred to as a system, unknown to EDD and EDSM, an "anarchist paradise" Isveve, referred to as 'dogs -of-a-world'...
Hundreds of missions conducted with Shirarta Dark Wheel faction and allied factions from Ticushpakhi to Varati yielded no special or uncommon discoveries, suggesting the real Dark Wheel may operate differently.
Is the minor faction TDW confirmed fake? If not, why do we assume so? Why would TRDW care about the fake one? It's doing great job distracting people from themselves and the fake one is pretty weak so it's not a threat. TRDW is not trying to be on the spotlight. Click to expand... Oh, was just a matter of speaking and thinking to new possibilities. I for myself have done hundreds of each type of mission for SD TDW, got allied with every single faction involved with TDW in the E/F missions from Ticushpakhi to Varati, and (almost) never experimented anything special or uncommon. Just thought I could do the opposite as a mean to come back to this game as soon as I get bored of... "the others space games". Now, if FDevs have changed their mind and are starting to provide clues about Ra...
Becoming part of the real Dark Wheel may require helping them eliminate the imposter faction in Shirarta Dezmon through BGS or direct combat as a loyalty test.
. We are all waiting for TRealDW invitation... I bet. Click to expand... Anyone tried hunting "FakeDW", in an attempt to get rid of them? Like, what if those really are an imposter faction and you need to help real DW to get rid of them to really get that invite? Of course they can do it themself, but helping them do it might just be the way. To become a part of DarkWheel you need to act like you are a part of DarkWheel? For me "whisper in witchspace" and "siren of the deepest void" is just a poetic way to describe the urge to travel in a world where traveling means doing jumps through something called witchspace. And the whole toast is just a toast, not some encoded guide. At least that's my opinion. Click to expand... There's also that part of the CODEX article: https://i.P...
Fighting the Shirarta Faction's Dark Wheel faction could attract the real Dark Wheel's attention as a test of commitment or to distinguish true seekers from charlatans.
. I'm just waiting for someone to get any positive confirmation that any of the theories being tossed out is right Click to expand... We are all waiting for TRealDW invitation... I bet. Which reminds me someone has stated to get hostile with SD TDW faction. If they are charlatans , fighting them could attract TRDW's attention. Up to a point. Maybe. Who knows ? Would be a fine FDevs trick, anyway ! Btw, Chupacabras is a SD faction iirc, and also a mexican Chimera... mmmhh...
